A Letter to Rep. John Bohener

September 24, 2010

The Hon. Rep. John Bohener

1011 Longworth H.O.B.

Washington, DC 20515

Dear  Rep. Bohener:

I have looked at the " Pledge to America "  and I am somewhat happy to see that finally the Republican Party has a plan, albeit one that is missing details.

Following are some suggestions and I mean some as my plan would entail a lot more than I can put in this letter.

With respect to creating jobs, the plan seems vague. Following is what I would like to see in it:

  • Reduce the corporate Tax to a flat 15%
  • Reduce the personal income tax to a flat 15% regardless how the income was earned.
  • Tax exempt the first $ 25,000 for single people and $ 50,000 for married people.
  • Provide Job retention tax credit.
  • Provide Job creation tax credit.
  • Provide investment tax credit.
  • Provide tax credit for using US made raw material and components
  • Impose a surtax on companies exporting jobs abroad and deny them all tax credits.
  • Eliminate the red tape that is killing our economy and jobs.

With respect to reforming Congress, here is what the plan is missing:

  • First and foremost Congress must set an example and take a 10% pay cut immediately.
  • Reform Congress retirement plans and health care plans and see that Congress has the same plans as the rest of us.
  • Eliminate all pork and make sure that each bill introduced in Congress stands on its own.
  • Make it illegal to be a lobbyist as lobbyists are at the base of most of our problems.
  • Make illegal to be a foreign lobbyist as foreigners have no business in what we do and how we do.
  • Make it illegal for members of Congress not to vote or to abstain.
  • Call for a constitutional convention to address some of the pit falls in our SACRED Constitution.
  • Open all debates to the public and allow CSPAN in all meetings, no exceptions.
  • Post all bills in some Website so that the public can be well informed before the law is voted on, no exceptions.
  • Make the government really transparent as now it seems to operate in secrecy most of the times.
  • Curtail the Executive Order authority the president now has.
  • Curtail the President's spending discretion.
  • Eliminate all Czars. Anyone working in our government must go through a screening process.
  • Reform the election process.
  • Give more authority to the stases and make sure the government works with each and every sovereign state rather than against them.

Mr. Bohener, the pledge is a good positive start but it must be expanded without mincing words. It must be detailed and written in plain "English" so that we all can understand it and it can be translated into a viable platform for the future. Once you do that, I am certain you will have the support of most Americans who now may be scratching their heads wondering if this isn't just another political ploy to get the GOP through the November elections.

As I have indicated, there is a lot more I can suggest; however, I just want you  to realize that  " we the people" had enough of empty promises.

Hopefully you and the entire Republican Party will do the right thing, and also start supporting all republican candidates running for office no matter where they came from.

Sincerely Yours

Domenic Sgambellone
